Glucosamine Sulfate

What is glucosamine sulfate?
  • Glucosamine sulfate is one of a number of amino sugars found in the human body. These amino sugars are components of carbohydrates that are involved in the synthesis of many important macro-molecules that the body uses for incorporation into the structure of tissues. A few examples of macronutrients are as stated: glycoproteins, glycolipids, and glycos-aminoglycans (mucopolysaccharides). Glucosamine, along with the formation of macromolecules, helps in the formation of the nails, tendons, skin, eyes, bones, ligaments, and heart valves. Substantial evidence indicates that it also plays a role in the formation of mucous in the digestive, respiratory, and urinary tracts. Therefore it can be possible that damage to these tissues can cause a deficiency in the amount of glucosamine normally synthesized by the body.

  • It is said that glucosamine sulfate and the associated macro nutrients play a major role in the formation of cushioning ingredients in the joint fluids and surrounding tissues; thus it has been associated helping synovial fluid thicken and become more elastic in joints and vertebrae. This synovial fluid in the joints can become thin and watery when the tissues surrounding these areas become damaged causing other complications.
  • Professor Rovati at the Rotta Research Laboratorium in Monza has discovered that the glucosamine sulfate molecule supports the metabolism of joint cartilage. His studies have also indicated that glucosamine sulfate is an effective substance for the treatment of osteoarthritis. Glucosamine sulfate was also discovered to have some anti-inflammatory properties. These studies indicate that Glucosamine sulfate works to normalize damaged joint cartilage by inhibiting free radical damage along with protecting joint cartilage from destructive enzymes.
