A member of the sunflower family, echinacea is an herbal remedy of the Native American Plains indians for wounds, infections, and insect and snake bites.
Standards include: (1) angustifolia 4% echinacosides (E. angustifolia) or 4% 4-Sesquiterpene-esters (E. purpurea). (2) Angustifolia and Purpurea Combination

How does this stuff work?

flask.gif (2219 bytes) Echinacea is thriving with polysaccharides and phytosterols which have powerful non-specific stimulatory actions on the immune system. There has been research that has shown they
can stimulate the Alternative Complement pathway which helps influence general immune cells to look for bacteria and cellular debris. Roots of E. angustifolia contain a good amount of glycoside echinacoside, which has a mild antibiotic activity. E. purpurea contains components, primarily echinacin, with cortisone-like activity in order to help with wound healing. E. purpurea is also comprised of sesquiterpene esters which have immune stimulator activity.

Most common uses

  • immune stimulator for colds and flus
  • inflammation, analgesic, sedative, antispasmodic
  • relieve pain and swelling
  • edema, water retention
  • anti-viral
  • infections, sore throats, uti, strep throat, eye and ear infections
  • wound healing and cleansing
  • anti-cancer
  • snake and insect bites, scratches
  • boils, abcesses, gangrene, ulcerations, sores
  • tonsillitis, inflamed gums, mucus problems
  • urticaria (external wash)
  • antibiotic
  • allergies
  • stimulation of adrenal cortex, increase cortisol release
Caution: Should not be taken by those who are allergic to plants in the sunflower family
