What
is Echinacea? |

|
A member of the sunflower
family, echinacea is an herbal remedy of the Native American Plains indians for wounds,
infections, and insect and snake bites. |
Standards include:
(1) angustifolia 4% echinacosides (E. angustifolia) or 4% 4-Sesquiterpene-esters (E.
purpurea). (2) Angustifolia and Purpurea Combination |
How does this stuff work? |
 |
Echinacea is thriving with
polysaccharides and phytosterols which have powerful non-specific stimulatory actions on
the immune system. There has been research that has shown they |
can stimulate the
Alternative Complement pathway which helps influence general immune cells to look for
bacteria and cellular debris. Roots of E. angustifolia contain a good amount of glycoside
echinacoside, which has a mild antibiotic activity. E. purpurea contains components,
primarily echinacin, with cortisone-like activity in order to help with wound healing. E.
purpurea is also comprised of sesquiterpene esters which have immune stimulator activity. |
