Benefits: Antioxidant
Cancer-fighting
About the Product:
Green tea and its extract is made from the famous tea plant called Camillia
sinensis,
and it is widely known for its use as a very potent antioxidant and cancer-preventer and
fighter. In fact, it is believed that the reason that the cancer rate in Japan is so low
due in partial to the large consumption of green tea in that country.
Antioxidant:
Most of the research done on the effects of green tea intake has focused on cancer, and
its ability thereof as a highly potent antioxidant. An ingredient in green tea called
polyphenols is responsible for its activity as an antioxidant. Research has shown green
tea to have a greater antioxidant activity than other popular antioxidants, such as
vitamin E or C. In fact, green tea has been found to be 200 times more effective than
vitamin E in antioxidant activity, and was found to have 20 times the ability to prevent
peroxide formation (oxidation). This is important, as it had been found that the formation
of peroxides in lipids has been linked to raising the risk of developing cardiovascular
disease. In addition to the direct antioxidant activity that green tea provides, it also
appears that green tea actually stimulates the body's own production of antioxidant and
detoxifying enzymes which would have a synergistic effect with its ability to counteract
free radicals and oxidation.
Suggested Dosages:
Drink green tea as desired. If taken in capsule form, use 100mg capsules, 1 to 5 daily,
standardized to 50% Catechins/Polyphenols.
Safety:
Green tea in both forms has been found to be nontoxic in both short and long-term
usage. Due to the caffeine present in gree tea in drinkable form, overconsumption of it
may cause restlessness and insomnia that would otherwise not be present in capsule form.
