- Benefits:
- Relieves Insomnia and promotes restful sleep
- Stress and mild anxiety
- About the Product:
Valerian is a herbal plant
that is found in woodland areas throughout Europe. It has a history of being prescribed as
a sedative dating back to approximately 150 A.D.. Today, researchers and modern medicine
have confirmed its use as a sedative, and it is widely suggested for individuals with
insomnia, mild anxiety, and restlessness.
- Restful Sleep and Insomnia:
Valerian can be
used to promote restful sleep in both healthy people and those who suffer from sleep
disorders such as insomnia. In studies conducted into the mechanism of Valerian, it was
found that Valerian binds to similar receptors as Valium and other synthesized drugs that
are used to promote sedation. Valerian however does not produce the unpleasant
side-effects that prescription drugs normally do, such as "morning hangover",
addiction, and/or diminished concentration.
- Mild Anxiety and Stress:
Given its sedative
properties without the effect of losing mental concentration, Valerian is often suggested
in small doses for those who lead stressful lives or suffer from mild anxiety.
- Suggested Dosage:
200mg capsules,
standardized to 1% valeric acid. 1-2 capsules approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour before
bedtime to promote restful sleep. Children 6-12 years of age, half dose.
For mild anxiety and restlessness, 1 200mg capsule may be taken in the morning, as well
as 1 capsule before bedtime.
Valerian is regarded as safe, and approved for use by the U.S. Food and Drug
Administration. At recommended doses, there have been no reported side effects, and is not
toxic. However, pregnant women should not take Valerian due to limited research. Valerian
does not lead to addiction, or affect concentration abilities.
